Cookie Policy

With the applicable participating higher education institutions, details of which are made available on the Site (the "Participating Institutions") (together "us", "we" or "our") use "cookies" to help us remember details of your visits to the website www.studentvolunteer.ie (the "Site") including, but not limited to, technical information about your visit e.g. traffic data, location data, your IP address, the type of browser you use, browser plug-in types and versions, the websites or other resources that you access on the Site, page interaction information and the length of visits to certain page.

A cookie is a small data file that is transferred to your device (e.g. your phone or your computer) for record-keeping purposes. For example, a cookie could allow the Site to recognise your browser, while another could store your preferences and other information and let you navigate the Site effectively. Cookies can also help to ensure that adverts you see online are more relevant to you and your interests.

Types of Cookies Used on the Site

We may place our cookies on your device via the Site. We may also allow our service providers to place cookies on your device.

The following are the main types of cookies used on the Site:

First Party Cookies

Strictly necessary cookies: These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website.

Analytical/performance cookies: They allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our Site when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our Site works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.

Functionality cookies: These are used to recognise you when you return to our Site. This enables us to personalise our content for you and remember your preferences.

Targeting cookies: These cookies record your visit to our Site, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We will use this information to make our Site and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose.

You can find more information about the individual cookies we use and the purposes for which we use them in the table below:

Cookie Type Name Purpose Decription
EE exp_last_activity Perfomance Every time the state is updated (the page reloaded) the last activity is set to the current datetime. Used to determine expiry. This is essential for logged in users, but not for guests – it is set for both.
EE exp_last_visit Perfomance Sets the datetime that the user last visited the site, and is set for both guests and logged in users. If not set, is automatically set to 10 years ago. Affects guests and logged in users.
EE exp_tracker Perfomance Tracks the last 5 pages viewed by the user, and is used primarily for redirection after logging in etc. Affects guests and logged in users.
EE exp_csrf_token Functionality Creates a hash and stores locally, ensures forms are being submitted securely.
