Description

DORAS  is an organisation, based in Limerick City, that works tirelessly to promote and protect human rights.

This volunteering opportunity is to support DORAS. The opportunity is sponsored by Limerick's Rotary Club's  yearly Remembrance Tree  (Yellow Ribbon) Project (2024).

DORAS is one of the charities this year that will benefit  from funds collected by volunteers during the month of December ('24) in the Crescent Shopping Centre, Limerick. Volunteers will offer a yellow ribbon to people as they pass and ask them if they would like to remember someone by writing that person's name on a ribbon which will be placed on the Remembrance Tree. There is no charge for the ribbon but they may make a donation if they wish.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

The volunteer will wear a Rotary tabard (provided by Limerick Rotary Club) while at the tree.

The volunteer will offer a yellow ribbon to people as they pass near the tree and ask them if they would like to remember someone (e.g. someone dear that has passed away, someone not home for Christmas etc.) by writing the person's name on a ribbon that will be placed on the Remembrance Tree.

There is no charge for the ribbon, however people may, if they wish, make a voluntary donation. 

The volunteer will guide them to do this as best suits them. (Portable card readers will be available at the Remembrance Tree, if required.)

Skills required for this role:

Confident engaging and interacting with members of the public.

Polite and approachable..

Relaxed and able to enjoy the expereience. Smile.

Competitive

Mindful of own safety and the safety of others when working at the Remembrance Tree.

The 5 allocated dates (and the time slots on that day) to DORAS during December for this volunteering opportunity are as follows...... Wed. 4th Dec. (11am - 1:30pm; 1:30pm - 4:00pm; 4pm - 6:30pm) Sun.8th Dec. (12pm - 2:00pm; 2:00pm - 4:00pm; 4pm - 6:00pm) Thurs. 12th Dec. (4pm - 6:30pm; 6:30pm - 9:00pm) Mon.16th Dec. (11am - 1:30pm; 1:30pm - 4:00pm; 4pm - 6:30pm) Fri. 20th Dec. (4:00pm - 6:30pm; 6:30 - 9:00pm)

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
