Description

The Hygiene Bank Galway are looking for volunteers to join our team of Donation Coordinators. We are a group of enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about eradicating hygiene poverty in Galway. Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products most of us take for granted. The reality of low income is that it restricts people’s options, leaving us caught between being able to heat our homes, pay the rent, eat or be clean.

Hygiene Poverty can be...

  • struggling to wash your hair because you can’t afford shampoo
  • parents being unable to change a baby's nappy as often as is needed, or having to reuse dirty nappies
  • having to choose between shaving foam and razors or transport fare
  • being 'judged' for living in a dirty home, when you can't afford the cost of household cleaning products
  • not being able to leave the house because you can't afford period products

The Hygiene Bank Galway have a network of Drop Off Points across Galway city and county which are managed by our Donation Coordinators. Drop Off Points are boxes set up in local businesses that allows the general public to donate hygiene items to The Hygiene Bank Galway. As a Donation Coordinator, your role will be to set up and manage this Drop Off Point, empty it and deliver the donated hygiene products to one of our local Community Partners (or our city centre storage unit).

All of our volunteering is flexible, so whether you are able to give a couple of hours a week, or a couple of hours a month, you're very welcome. Collecting hygiene products and supporting drop-offs can easily fit around your schedule, with regular Zoom meetings and some in person events to meet other volunteers in your area.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Set up new Drop Off point/s in your local area
  • Collect and distribute hygiene product donations from your allocated Drop Off Points
  • Attend regular in person/Zoom Volunteer meetings (approx every 2 months)

Skills required for this role:

Volunteers must:

  • Share our passion for tackling hygiene poverty
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Attend an induction session
  • Read our volunteer handbook
  • Read and adhere to all our policies and code of conduct
  • Have a full drivers license and access to a vehicle

Details of time commitment needed for role:
- Occasional collections of hygiene products from your allocated Drop Off Point and delivery to Charity Partners or storage unit (approx 1-2hrs per month) - Occasional delivery of hygiene product donations to our Charity Partners (approx 1-2 hours every few months) - Volunteering at The Hygiene Bank Ireland is a bit different to usual volunteering opportunities. They are flexible roles that can easily fit around your schedule.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
