Requirements:A love of crafting and the imagination to turn raw materials into items to cherish
Do you love crafting? Every year we send donated Christmas Shoebox Gifts to needy children in Eastern Europe and Africa and we are always grateful to everyone for creating their shoebox gifts. However, some of the boxes need to be “filled” with a few more items and that’s where you can help. You can help make the boxes extra special for these children by creating “WOW” items from every day crafting materials.
The items you create can be practical or fun - so long as they can fit into a shoebox sized container. Examples might be sewing projects - a small washbag made from spare material, a tick-tac-toe game made from a small bag and painted stones or maybe you can turn an old t-shirt into a small bag. Similarly, you might love making small wooden toys or knitting items. This role is only limited by your imagination!
This is a flexible role, here are some of the practical details:
You can do this in your own home and/or as part of the crafting groups that are on campus. You can keep on crafting throughout the year.
From September onwards, we can put you in touch with the local Limerick City team Coordinator who can arrange with you to pass over the items you’ve created.
They will then be used in the official Limerick City checking centre to “fill” a shoebox that isn’t quite full and will also give joy to a child who may never have received a gift before.
Is training provided?: No
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
Volunteers should have a love of crafting that will enable them to enjoy the experience of creating an item that will be found by a child as they open up their Christmas shoebox box and enjoy playing with the item, using it or cherishing it for years to come!
