Galway City Harriers Athletics Club
Galway
Requirements:None
For many years, the largest mass-participation sporting event in Galway has been the Streets of Galway 8K race. This year’s race, which is sponsored, once again, by the Blackrock Health Galway Clinic, will take place at 7.00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9. For a glorious hour or so, the streets of Galway will echo to the sounds of thousands of runners making their way around the city as well as the sounds of the large crowds that cheer them on every year.
The race is organised by the Galway City Harriers Athletics Club and all money raised by the race is set aside for the development of athletics in Galway. For more information about the club, see http://galwaycityharriers.ie/
The race requires a large number of volunteers to help with the organising and operation of the race. The main requirement is for race marshals. They work with the Guards and local authorities to ensure that the route remains free of traffic so that the 3,000 runners have a wonderful safe experience. No experience of race marshalling is necessary. Every marshal will be given appropriate training and will be supported by an experienced Area Leader. Race marshals must be available to work from 5.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on August 9. Volunteers will receive a special limited edition Streets of Galway t-shirt.
You can sign up at https://forms.gle/AbxiYrEBMkBnyz1z7 or you can email sogvolunteers@gmail.com if you would like to marshal the race.
Each year, many people from the university run the race and we look forward to seeing many staff and students cross the finish line on August 9. If you wish to sign up for the race, please do so at https://eventmaster.ie/event/3KLyHx4tZW. Don’t delay as the race may well sell out before August 12.
