Description

This role involves an informal meeting once a week to tutor simple conversational Spanish and Spanish culture to a person with a disability. The role also provides a social interaction for our client, who is a female in her thirties and is seeking a Spanish language experience. The format would be similar to a language exchange. Would ideally suit a female, preferably someone who speaks Spanish as a first language and has basic/intermediate/conversational English. 

RehabCare is a national organisation supporting people with disablities. RISE Service is a community based outreach service for people with mild-moderate Intellectual Disability. A RISE staff member will provide induction and support in the role, and you will also be covered by RehabCare insurance while volunteering.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

• Meet with the person with a disability for 1 hour per week
• Prepare topics for learning and conversation, with assistance of RISE staff member
• Proactively lead the learning during the session
• Assign informal 'homework' to be added to a project book

Skills required for this role:

• Fluent Spanish and knowledge of Spanish culture
• Intermediate/Conversational/Basic English
• Skills to design and implement a 12-week individual learning plan
• Adapt teaching/learning to ability level of client
• Ability to form a good working relationship with client
• Empathetic and patient

Details of time commitment needed for role:
1 hour session a week, ideally a weekday between 11.00-12.00 noon. Ideally 4-6 months.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
