Requirements:Fluent English, driver licence preferred
With over 80 years of experience, the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps is recognised as one of the most experienced and professional first aid organisations in the island of Ireland. We provide first aid and emergency medical ambulance services to an extensive array of organisations, events and festivals throughout the island of Ireland, including Horse Racing Ireland, The 3 Arena, GAA, Rugby, Motor Sport, Music Festivals , Street Carnivals including St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and many more.
Our volunteers co-ordinate and manage a range of community care services including day care centres, community care centres and centres for the elderly. We assist pilgrims to Knock, Croagh Patrick and Lourdes annually. We also provide essential respite for disabled young people at our facilities in the Share Holiday village.
We are always looking for volunteers to help out. You will be trained and equipped to the PHECC accredited level of First Aid Responder (FAR), trained in Assistance with Daily Living and Manual Handling. Dedication and commitment to the unit over a few years will see you upskilled to higher clinical levels (EFR,EMT) which are not subsidised by the volunteers.
As a volunteer you will receive information on duties through text and Facebook, you will be expected to complete at least one a month. You will always be paired with somebody with more experience who will help you learn through a hands on approach, we have EMTs, Paramedics, Advanced Paramedics and Doctors within the unit who also would be more than delighted to teach you a new technique or go through scenarios
Training is heavily scenario based, and involves the use of the Ambulance, make-up and equipment to allow for better simulations.
If you are over 18, you will be offered to go on duty at Leopardstown Race course, the 3 arena, Body and Soul and Croke Park to name a few.
Every year we take part in nation-wide competitions and compete against other units, this is a 2 night event and we generally try to take people who want to compete, patients and spectators.
