*Information from when we were recruiting*:
We are currently looking for students at the University of Limerick to join NiteLine as call-taking volunteers. NiteLine is a free, anonymous, confidential, non-directive and non-judgemental listening and information service, run by and for students at universities around Ireland. Our phone lines and instant messaging service are open from 9 pm to 2:30 am, seven nights a week during the academic term, and students can call or text us to talk about whatever is on their mind - no problem is too big or too small.
NiteLine volunteers are expected to take at least two late-night shifts per month, answering calls and instant messaging conversations from students from our 11 affiliated colleges. Volunteers must first undergo 24 hours of basic training, which will equip them with all the skills needed to listen to, guide and assist our callers.There are also additional opportunities within the organisation which allow call-taking volunteers to get involved in publicity, training, finance, IT and other areas of running the charity.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
Answer calls and instant messaging conversations from students
Attend volunteer support meetings
Support their fellow volunteers while on shift
Attend morale and social events for volunteers
Publicise NiteLine around their college campus
Skills required for this role:
Empathy
Good listener
Willing to learn new skills
Flawless English, in both speech and writing
Details of time commitment needed for role:
24 hours of basic training takes place over 8 x 3-hour sessions over summer.
Call taking shifts take place mid-week, from 9 pm to 2:30 am. Volunteers select which shifts they would like to take. This will begin in September 2024, at the beginning of the next academic year.
Minimum time commitment per week:
6 hour p/week

Prospective volunteers may be subject to a screening call with an experienced NiteLine volunteer, to ensure that this is the right volunteering opportunity for you.
