Description

The purpose of this role is to provide direct support to those who request assistance from the Society. Visit people in their homes with another SVP member to offer support, guidance, and friendship. The support provided by Members/Volunteers can be extremely heartening for people who are struggling and can offer hope to them and their families. Offering a little help at the right time can give people hope for the future. Sharing your time and your skills can change lives forever.

This is a unique way of volunteering that puts the person at the centre. It is based on human dignity and respect. Visitation is non-judgemental and underpinned by compassion and a generosity of time for those we assist.

Because the relationship is central, we require that our volunteers commit for a year. This will enable the experience to be a fulfilling and meaningful one for all those involved.

Volunteering cannot begin until students have been vetted and trained. This process will generally take 4 weeks after the application date.

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

1) Visiting people who request help from SVP in their home. This enables us to better understand their real needs, thus enabling the Society to provide long-term solutions and assist people towards self-sufficiency.
