School Completion Programme works with young people who are at risk of leaving school early. We aim to support the young peoples' attendance, participation and retention in school. Our office is in Garryglass, Ballinacurra Weston, but we work with the following secondary schools: Colaiste Nano Nagle, Crescent College Comprehensive and St Clement's College.
We are looking for people who are ready to provide grinds to our junior and leaving certificate students, who are preparing for their exams next summer. The grinds take place after school on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons, from 1.30 - 5.30pm (depending on the school the students are from). The venue for the grinds maybe at our office in Garryglass or at one of the schools.
Each tutor will have 1 - 3 students per session for 1hr each week. You will choose a subject that you feel confident in providing the grind up to higher level leaving certificate standards. But your group maybe ordinary level junior cert students, or it might be higher level leaving cert students, depending on the need. You will have the same group once a week for the hour for 6 consecutive weeks, after which the student's will switch to another subject they need help with.
We are looking for tutors in all junior and leaving certificate subjects. But specifically maths, English, history, geography, German and Spanish.
You need to be able to either drive or use public transport to get to our venues to deliver the grind. In exceptional circumstances, we will consider facilitating grinds via zoom.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
Prepare structured grinds session on your chosen subject, content for 6 x 1hr tutoring.
Text books and exam papers will be provided by us. You need to prepare the content for the sessions.
Facilitate the grind for 1 hr once a week, for 6 weeks at a time per subject/group.
Skills required for this role:
Sufficient knowledge of your chosen subject to accommodate students up to higher level leaving certificate standards.
Planning and organisation skills for preparing session content.
Ability to communicate with and relate to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Means of getting around the city to get to the venue/s for facilitating the grinds.
Garda vetting will need to organised. We will do this with you if you do not already have vetting from UL.
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Grinds take place on Wednesday afternoons between 1.30 - 5.30pm for Crescent College Comprehensive and Colaiste Nano Nagle.
For St Clement's College the grinds will take place Monday or Tuesday afternoons from 3.30 - 4.30.
Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
Additional screening required for this role:
Garda vetting is compulsory. We will provide this for you once you commit to volunteering with us. Grinds can only begin after successful garda vetting has been completed.
