Gaisce is available to young people aged 15-25 and participants are supported by a President’s Award Leader (PAL). There are four different areas: Community Involvement (volunteering), Personal Skill, Physical Recreation and an Adventure Journey. There are three awards - Bronze, Silver and Gold; Bronze and Silver awards require 26 weeks of activities and a Gold award requires 52 weeks of activities.
Dublin City Volunteer Centre is working in partnership with Gaisce to act as a Gaisce Award Partner. President's Award Leaders (PALs) affiliated with the Centre will work with young adults (18 to 25).
Your Role
The role involves mentoring Gaisce participants. Full training will be provided and PALs are supported by a Gaisce Development Officer.
The main tasks of a PAL are to:
1. Discuss chosen activities with participants to ensure they are appropriate.
2. Encourage participants to register with Gaisce.
3. Guide participants and approve them when they have completed their award.
What's Required
The young adult may take anything from 6 months to several years to complete an award, depending on whether they are working towards a Bronze, Silver or Gold award.
The PALs involvement is occasional, mainly by phone call/email/text with one or two face to face meetings.
