Description

Ard Family Resource Centre hosts a national organization called 'Failte Isteach' which facilitates local faciltators of english language conversation and activity classes. Learners are all adults, from varied backgrounds such as Ukraine, Palestine, Congo, Afghanistan and Somalia. The emphasis is on lighthearted, practical spoken English.  

Details : Classes are on Thursdays 10-12pm but small group classes can be catered for (daytime only). There are three levels with most new facilitators starting with higher levels. Local training and  all resources are supplied. Facilitators can work singly or in pairs as desired. A teaching background is not required but some organisationals skills are essential. Group size, usually 6-15 people.

The emphasis is on engagement and is conversation and activity-based.

Our aim is to help our new residents to meet the locals and have fun!

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

All administration responsibilites are with Ard Resource centre. Facilitators will just need to take a roll call of attendance. 

The  selection of materials from our resources or online sources,  photocopying of worksheets etc are done by facilitators. 

Attandance at training is optional. 

Periodic meetings are held to update on levels etc , new ideas for activities trips etc.  

Skills required for this role:

Teaching background not required 

Fluency in English 

Organizational skills and strong emphathy skills useful

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Classes :Thursday mornings 10-12pm Other small classes can be arranged at convenient times. No evenings

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
No garda vetting required as all participants are over 18.
