Description

The University of Limerick's HR-EDI Office is recruiting a network of student volunteers to promote ‘Dignity and Respect’, as well as ‘Consent, Sexual Health, and Wellbeing (SHW) Education’ for the Academic Year 24/25.

As Dignity & Respect Ambassadors, volunteers will engage in promoting a respectful and inclusive campus culture by co-leading workshops, organising and participating in events, creating and contributing to social media outputs, and signposting support services to their peers.

This role empowers students to advocate for social justice, raise awareness on issues related to discrimination and harassment, and foster a safe environment for all members of the campus community.

Participants will gain valuable experience in leadership, communication, and advocacy, contributing to a safe, respectful, supportive, and positive environment for all.

This volunteering opportunity includes two key elements:

  • Promoting Dignity & Respect 
  • Consent and Sexual Health & Wellbeing 

Volunteers have the flexibility to engage in one or both of these areas depending on their interests.

  • Dignity & Respect Ambassadors who are active in the field of Consent and Sexual Health & Wellbeing will be supported by Maria Healy, the Sexual Violence & Harassment Prevention and Response Manager, throughout their volunteering time.

 

  • Dignity & Respect Ambassadors who are active in the field of Promoting Dignity & Respect on campus will be supported by Niloufar Omidi, the EDI Project & Policy Development Officer, throughout their volunteering time.
  •  

Applicants who wish to engage in Consent and Sexual Health & Wellbeing activities must be available for in-person training on Monday, the 23rd of September, from 11 am to 4 pm with Maria Healy.

Applicants who are interested in supporting the promotion of Dignity and Respect on campus should be available for in-person training on the 1st of October from 10 am to 1 pm with Niloufar Omidi.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Facilitating Training: Assisting with or co-facilitating training sessions and workshops for students and staff on topics related to EDI, Consent, and SHW.

 

  • Student Engagement: Supporting the operation of information stands at key events such as Freshers' Week, Rag Week, etc.

 

  • Promotion: Creating or contributing to social media content.

 

  • Raising Awareness: Organizing and participating in events, workshops, and campaigns aimed at raising awareness.

 

  • Collaboration: Working with various student groups and university networks to integrate EDI and consent & SHW themes into their activities and events.

 

  • Signposting to Support: Providing support and guidance to students who may have experienced or witnessed discrimination, harassment, or bullying.

 

  • Feedback and Reporting: Providing feedback on the effectiveness of current policies and initiatives, and reporting any observed issues or concerns to the relevant contact points at the HR-EDI Office.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Dependent on ongoing events and campaigns. There are no weekly set days/hours.
