Description

The Community Liaision Officer (CLO) works in the local communities/housing adjacent to UL Monday to Thursday from 5pm-8pm weekly. This volunteer opporunity involves engaging with both students and members of the local community to establish their needs and to offer support. 

The SCELO is a support for students from UL and while the focus is supporting all members of the community this is also an opportunity for students to learn more about the local community and become involved in community initatives that arise throughout the academic year

Is training provided?: No

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Tasks may vary depending on the needs of the community. We will be cleaning up areas identified by the community and the SCELO will be with you to do the cleaning to.

Some older people in the community may experience situations where they may need assistance. Ultimately we all need to be open to what the needs are.

  • Students (undergrad, postgrad, part-time) have the opportunity to earn a Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plassey or Overseas award every year.

Skills required for this role:

Friendliness, Non-Judgemental, interesed in the local environment, open to meeting new people.

This is a great opportunity for international students to learn about Irish culture and improve English language skills while engaging with native english speakers. 

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) works in the local community from 5pm-8pm Monday to Thursday and would love to have students supporting her work. 1-2 hours per week with the CLO

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
