Ready to make a difference next spring? STAND’s Global Issues Courses are back, and we’re looking for passionate student volunteers to lead the way as course coordinators!

 

Tell me about the Global Issues Course: 

The STAND Global Issues course is a part-time evening course that focuses on the interdependent and unequal world in which we live, through a process of interactive learning, debate, action and reflection. Running online for one evening per week over 6 weeks, each 2-hour session focuses on a different topic ranging from Migration to the Environmental Crisis and is facilitated by a different expert, researcher or activist with extensive experience in their particular field. 

Tell me about the role? 

The role will be engaging and rewarding, with a variety of tasks: 

  • Liaising with Education and Research Manager & course Facilitator in advance of each session to understand session requirements  
  • Welcoming students to each workshop & introducing the course facilitator each week (additionally, closing the session, thanking the facilitator and introducing the topic of the next session) 
  •  Providing tech support at each session including supporting the facilitator with managing break-out rooms and monitoring the Chat for Q&A  
  • Acting as a contact point between STAND and course participants, ensuring any queries from participants are addressed.  
  • Hosting a Global Issues Tea n’ Chat/Coffee Morning on campus for participants on the Global Issues course 

Optional tasks include: 

  • STAND social media takeover: creating content for STAND’s social media page based on your experience with Global Issues 
  • Writing for STAND News: writing articles on the Global Issues themes for STAND News

Dates:

  • Mondays: 17th February- 31st March
  • Tuesdays: 18th February- 25th March
  • Wednesdays: 19th February- 26th March

Skills required for this role:

Here is a list of four requirements for the role:

Interest in Global Issues: A strong passion for and interest in discussing and addressing global challenges, such as social justice, sustainability, and international development.

Ability to Commit to Weekly Meetings: Availability to attend and actively participate in the 6 weekly online sessions, on your chosen day (Mon, Tue or Wed)

Good Communication and Organisational Skills: Confidence in welcoming and engaging with students, introducing facilitators, and managing session flow effectively.

Basic Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with managing online platforms (e.g., Zoom)

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Each coordinator can choose one of the following schedules (Mon or Tue or Wed) Global Issues 1 (Monday) 1. Week 1: February 17 2. Week 2: February 24 3. Week 3: March 3 4. Week 4: March 10 5. Week 5: March 24, * 6. Week 6: March 31 * notice 5th week is pushed out a week due to St Patricks Day Global Issues 2 (Tuesdays) There are no holidays affecting Tuesdays, so this schedule proceeds as planned: 1. Week 1: February 18 2. Week 2: February 25 3. Week 3: March 4 4. Week 4: March 11 5. Week 5: March 18 6. Week 6: March 25 Global Issues 3: Wednesdays 1. Week 1: February 19 2. Week 2: February 26 3. Week 3: March 5 4. Week 4: March 12 5. Week 5: March 19 6. Week 6: March 26 In Person Day - April 5th

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
