Description

The UL Access Office set up the Academy for Children in late 2020. The goal of the Academy is to encourage and support primary school children in local DEIS designated schools to reach their full potential and begin their journey onto higher education. The role will support this goal through in-school and on-campus outreach work with Limerick schools. Students should be enthusiastic about working with primary school children and other members of school communities. 

We are currently looking for students who have entered UL through an Access Route. 

Please note that transport will be covered to and from school visits. 

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

- Designing and delivering in-school talks on your educational journey from primary to 3rd level 

-  Assisting with parent/guardian information sessions on different topics relating to university life

- Participating in on-campus tours and activities 

- Assisting the primary school access coordinator with other duties as they arise 

Skills required for this role:

Teamwork - working within a team of ambassadors under the direction of the primary school access coordinator

Communication - delivering engaging, interesting and age appropriate talks to 5th and 6th class students

Time management - needs to turn up at pre-arranged times

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Most activities will take place during the day but some may take place during the evenings.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
