As we count down to our 11th Annual President's Volunteer Award Ceremony we would like to share with you this year's guest speaker - Executive Director of UL Alumni Majella O'Connell. We were honoured that she accepted to join us for our second virtual award ceremony. So here's a little bit about Majella and her amazing career...
Majella O’Connell BA ‘91
Originally from Kilrush in West Clare, Majella O’Connell’s UL journey began in 1987 when she arrived at the campus to begin a degree in European Studies. A highlight of her studies was in fact being placed on Co-op in West Berlin in the months leading up to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
Following her graduation in 1991, Majella held roles at Plassey Management & Technology Centre as well as AST Computers, before answering the call to return to her alma mater. She joined UL Alumni in 1996, a campus company which manages the engagement of UL’s graduates. Under her leadership, UL Alumni has developed a range of key initiatives and as Executive Director, she also plays a key role in helping to transform the culture of engagement at the University of Limerick.
Majella played a key role in the delivery of UL25 (to mark the University’s 25th anniversary) and has recently been invited onto the working group for UL50 to mark the University’s major milestone in 2022.
A former voluntary Board Member at the award-winning Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick, Majella is currently voluntary Child Welfare Officer at Parkville Football Club which competes in the Limerick city soccer league.
We are so grateful that Majella joined us for this year's ceremony. We hope you all enjoy!
