My name is Khayla Timothy and I am a 2nd year midwifery student attending the University of Limerick. I volunteer with different organisations like Helium Arts and Special Swim Olympics Ireland. Helium Arts provides art and craft workshops, for children living with long term health conditions.
My role was to help the artist and children with their art work. Some children may be non-verbal and drawing can be there method of communicating. I volunteered as a swim coach with Special Swim Olympics Ireland. I motivated and coached athletes on a weekly basis and am currently preparing them for Swim For A Mile.
I decided to volunteer as, I love meeting new people and helping out in the community. Volunteering brings joy and hope to my life. I would strongly encourage any student to consider volunteering. Although volunteering may seem like such a small gesture to you, it can mean to world to someone else. From my experience, I have seen the positive impact volunteering with organisations has on someone’s life. There is a volunteering role out there for everyone. I look forward to continuing my volunteering journey and can’t wait to start working with more organisations.
