Volunteering as a student ambassador really made me aware of and appreciate all of the work that goes on behind the scenes for the students, here at UL. Between creating vlogs and other content for new and potential students, conducting campus tours, and acting as a guide for the open-day, I have come to see all of the work that goes into the organisation and running of the university. In terms of my time as PRO for Dance UL, similar to the above, I have now seen all of the work that goes into the running of a society or club, when posting on the social media, organising and advertising events/classes, and answering any questions and queries posed by members or students looking to join the society.
I have always had a huge interest in dance and performance, and I actually study at the Irish World Academy here, so when I came to UL, Dance UL, was one of the first things I gravitated towards. After acting as an ordinary committee member last year, and having really enjoyed it, I wanted a more hands-on role this year. The role of PRO (Public Relations Officer) combined my love for dance and social media. This year has shown me the benefits and satisfaction gained from volunteering, while also helping others. Due to this, in the future, whether associated with UL or not, I plan on continuing to volunteer, when and where I can.
